Composite Fillings

Also known as Resin Fillings, as these are a mixture of glass or quartz filler particles in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. The material comes in various shades making it possible to match the shade of the tooth to be filled. These fillings are mercury and metal free, and are bonded (adhesive) to the tooth structure. As a result, less tooth structure is removed when the dentist prepares the tooth. Thus these fillings are smaller than the amalgam fillings, allowing the dentist to make a more conservative repair to the tooth. The cost is moderately more then the amalgam fillings, as it generally takes longer to place a composite filling than what is required for an amalgam filling.
